The Design Process:

An overview of my process, services, turnaround time, & rate.

Introduction

If you’re a potential client or an artist friend, thanks for giving my work a look! Here is a little more information about my process for the projects I take on:

Steps Of A Typical Project

Most jobs typically go through a progression of 3 specific steps;

1. Mood Board 2. Sketch; and 3. Final artwork.

Below is an example of how I involve the client in the process to create a final product that exceeds their expectations:

Step 1: Vision Boards & Style Sheets

I start most projects by sending a short questionnaire where the client can give me more information about their project and send over any reference imagery they may have. Then I send a small moodboard like the example seen above. This is to help convey the aesthetic i’m hoping to achieve with the final product. This is to give examples of what I feel the client wants to see in the final product, before investing too much time in a direction.

Step 2: Ideation and Sketches

Once a moodboard direction is approved, I create an initial sketch that is loose in nature and lacking fine detail so the client can see their project begin to take shape. This also gives them the opportunity to give feedback and make any changes before moving forward.

Step 3: Final Artwork

Once the sketch has been approved the final artwork is then produced. Once the client has viewed the final artwork presentation, they can make another round of revisions before they are sent the final files for the project.

Rate:

When preparing a quote, a flat rate is determined for each project based off the total scope of the work that accounts for multiple factors such as scale, detail level, and timeline. Most payment plans are structured half in the beginning, and the remaining half before final files are sent.

*Public art projects are priced based off the payment schedule determined at the time of the contract.

Timeline:

The timeline of a project depends upon the level of detail in the illustration style, the scale of the project and deliverables, and the artists availability based off my current schedule. Illustration projects are typically completed in 3-5 weeks, and branding projects in 2-4 weeks. Quicker turnarounds from the quoted timeline is usually accompanied with a rush fee, and public art project timelines are quoted on a project by project basis.

Services:

I have experience in most graphic design practices including branding & identity, product packaging, book cover illustration, and type design & lettering. In addition to my design services & mural work, I have a full service screen-printing studio for wholesale apparel orders. I can provide quotes for any quantity, on any apparel item and can include custom designs for your project at a discounted rate. And finally I book catering orders throughout the year for my breakfast trailer, which you can read more about in the cafe tab of the website.
